The early spring, April through June
are superb dry fly fishing months. After the winter is over and just
before the spring runoff you are almost sure to catch a grand slam. The
weather is great, warming up during the day and the nights are still cool.
Typically the hatch found during this time will be March Browns, Blue
Wing Olives, and Caddis. These flies should insure a great catch for
the day.

July through Mid September, our
summer months. Great weather, cool to warm nights, hoppers, hoppers
and more hoppers. Spring runoff is usually over and all of our rivers
are fishing well.

Mid September through October is a
fantastic time in Montana for fly fishing as well as enjoying your
surroundings. The rivers are cooling off again after the summer months
which makes for very aggressive fish. The brown trout are spawning and
moving out of the lakes and into the rivers and the rainbows are following.
The fall scenery is spectacular, the aspens are turning a bright golden with
their fall colors and the mountains may be getting their first covering of
snow. Combine this with the eerie sound of the elk bugling in the
background and you will know that you are truly in "the last best place".

The winter months, from December
through March are certainly not for the cold natured, however they are great
for the serious fly fisherman. These months are typically nymphing
months but your occasional midge hatch will occur. We usually only
have about two weeks when the temperatures reach the 20-30 below mark .
These are about the only times that we are not on the river. Just
takes too long to cast twice and walk back to your vehicle and thaw out your
eyelets, not to mention your self. The rest of the time the trout are
active and hungry and you are sure to have a fight on your hands. You
may brave the cooler temperatures during the day but you will return
in the evening to a warm lodge, a hot shower and a fantastic hot meal.
